Ancient Cultures Table: China

Partnering with content experts, we created a historically accurate series of short digital interactives to make the objects in the Field Museums China Hall come alive. Students prepare for Qing Dynasty Civil Service exams by packing supplies in a basket. They design an imperial robe using powerful symbols to earn their people’s respect. Students learn about the lives of important women by selecting symbolic gifts to present them. They test their ability to make the trek across the Silk Road. By holding a high bar for accuracy, students absorb more than facts about the objects, they grow to understand the contextual history to build personal connections and greater comprehension.
